Chief Post Master General of Maharashtra and Goa M.S. Bali Maharashtra-Goa official nabbed taking Rs.2 crore bribe
CBI arrests a Chief Post Master General and two middleman in a bribery of Rs. two crores
The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Chief Postmaster General, (Maharashtra & Goa), GPO, Mumbai alongwith two private persons in a bribery case of Rs. two crores from the complainant.
It was alleged in the complaint that a bribe of Rs. two crores was demanded by the accused for giving NOC ( No Objection Certificate) from the Postal Department for development of plot of 2000 sq.mtrs, located in the jurisdiction of Mira – Bhayander Municipal Corporation, Thane. This plot of 2000 Sq.mtrs. was reserved for postal office for which the Corporation was requesting to issue NOC to develop the said plot as a private property with a slot to be kept for Post Office also. The complainant met the Chief Postmaster General in January, 2010 alongwith certain documents. The middleman contacted the complainant after this meeting with Chief Postmaster General and informed that he would help in getting the NOC from the postal department for the said plot.
The complainant alongwith the middleman met the Chief Postmaster General, where Rs. two crores was demanded for providing NOC.
The CBI laid a trap and the Chief Postmaster General was caught red handed while accepting bribe amount of Rs. 1.25 crores in a Restaurant located in Budhawar Park, Mumbai alongwith first middleman and another middleman. The rest of the amount Rs. 75 lakhs was to be taken by the middleman.
Searches were conducted in the office as well as residential premises of Chief Postmaster General and the middleman. During the search Rs. 34 lakhs ; 10722 US $ ; 3050 UK Pounds and 3470 Euros were found in the residence of Chief Postmaster General at Mumbai besides documents relating to immovable assets at Faridabad, Punchkula, Dwarka (in New Delhi), Bhopal and Gurgaon. The value of these assets is in crores. The accused is in possession of 22 Bank Accounts; PPF Accounts having a balance of more than Rs. 26 lakhs; 7 high-end Laptops belonging to Apple Viao; 45 imported Liquor bottles and two Cars. A locker in Gwalior is to be searched. All the three accused are being produced today in the designated court at Mumbai for remand.
Further investigation/ searches are continuing.
