Senior Superintendent of Posts, sentenced in a bribery case for three & half years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 10,000/-
The Speical Judge, CBI, Ambala has convicted Sh. Dharam Pal Kherwa Senior Superintendent of Posts, Post office, Karnal for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000/- from the complainant. He was sentenced to undergo three & half years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 10,000/-
A case was registered on the basis of a complaint against Sh. Dharam Pal Kherwa, Senior Superintendent of Posts and Ramesh Kumar, Office Supervisor of Post Office, Karnal under section 120-B IPC and section 7 of PC Act, 1988. The complainant was working as Postal Assistant at Post Office Patti Kalyana Distt. Panipat. It was alleged that they had demanded a bribe of Rs.10,000/- and a blanket from the complainant for his transfer from Patti Kalyana Distt. Panipat to Nilokheri, Distt. Karnal and also to cancel his dies-non period. On the Basis of the complaint, a trap was laid on 01.12.2006 by CBI and the accused were caught red handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs. 10,000/- and a blanket.
After investigation, charge sheet U/s 120-B IPC r/w 7, 13(2)r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act-1988 against both the accused persons was filed on 30.06.2007 in the court of Special Judge, Haryana, Ambala. Prosecution had cited 16 witnesses out of which 10 were examined after framing of charges. The Special Judge, CBI, Ambala (Haryana) convicted Sh. Dharam Pal Kherwa, Senior Superintendent of Posts, Post Office, Karnal and acquitted Sh. Ramesh Kumar office supervisor of Post Office, Karnal.
All India Consumer Price Index Numbers For Industrial Workers On Base 2001=100 For The Month Of May, 2010
All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) on base 2001=100 for the month of May, 2010 increased by 2 points and stood at 172 (one hundred and seventy two).
During May, 2010, the index recorded an increase of 6 points in Warrangal centre, 5 points in Guntur centre, 4 points in Chennai centre, 3 points in 16 centres, 2 points in 17 centres and 1 point in 18 centres. The index decreased by 2 points each in Yamunanagar, Puducherry, Amritsar, Ajmer, Ghaziabad and Varanasi centres and 1 point in 6 centres, while in the remaining 12 centres the index remained stationary.
The maximum increase of 6 points in Warrangal centre is mainly on account of increase in the prices of Moong Dal, Groundnut Oil, Eggs (Hen), Chillies Green, Vegetable and Fruit items, Bidi, Bus Fare, Repair Charges, etc. The increase of 5 points in Guntur centre is due to increase in the prices of Rice, Arhar Dal, Urd Dal, Goat Meat, Vegetable and Fruit items, Firewood, etc. and the increase of 4 points in Chennai centre is due to increase in the prices of Rice, Arhar Dal, Urd Dal, Eggs (Hen), Tamarind, Vegetable and Fruit items, Tea (Readymade), etc. However, the decrease of 2 points each in Yamunanagar, Puducherry, Amritsar, Ajmer, Ghaziabad and Varanasi centres is due to decrease in the prices of Rice, Wheat, Wheat Atta, Fish Fresh, Onion, Vegetable and Fruit items, etc.
The point to point rate of inflation for the month of May, 2010 is 13.91% as compared to 13.33% in April, 2010.
