No Railway Mail Service in (RMS) office has been closed in the country. However, merger or physical relocation of some offices with other RMS offices has been carried out as part of operational needs. Detail of merged/ physically relocated offices are given in the following table. The employees working in the RMS offices which have been merged/ physically relocated are working at the new location in the same city. All India Consumer Price Index Numbers for Industrial Workers All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) on base 2001=100 for the month of January, 2012 increased by 1 point and stood at 198 (one hundred & ninety eight).

During January, 2012, the index recorded maximum increase of 9 points each in Haldia and Bhilai centres, 7 points  in Jamshedpur centre, 6 points each in Tiruchirapally and Srinagar centres, 5 points  in 2 centres, 4 points in 7 centres, 3 points in 7 centres, 2 points in 11 centres and 1 point in 18 centres. The index decreased by 3 points each in Rangapara Tezpur and Godavarikhani centres, 2 points each in Madurai and Mercara centres, 1 point in 8 centres, while in the remaining 16 centres the index remained stationary.

The maximum increase of 9 points in Haldia and Bhillai centres is mainly on account of Housing Index and increase in the prices of Wheat, Mustard Oil, etc. The increase of 7 points in Jamshedpur centre is mainly due to Housing Index and increase in the prices of Mustard Oil, Goat Meat, Vegetable & Fruit items, Tea (Readymade), Firewood, Soft Coke, Barber Charges, etc. The increase of 6 points in Tiruchirapally and Srinagar centres is mainly on account of Housing Index and increase in the prices of Rice, Wheat Atta, Mustard Oil, Milk, Vegetable & Fruit items, Tea (Readymade), etc. The decrease of 3 points in Rangapara Tezpur and Godavarikhani centres is due to decrease in the prices of Rice, Onion, Chillies Green, Vegetable items, etc. The decrease of 2 points in Madurai and Mercara centres is due to decrease in the prices of Rice, Wheat, Fish Fresh, Poultry (Chicken), Onion, Vegetable & Fruit items, etc.

DEARNESS ALLOWANCE WOULD BE INCREASED BY 7% DUE TO All-India Consumer Price Index Numbers for Industrial Workers on Base 2001=100 for the Month of December 2011

During December, 2011, the index recorded maximum decrease of 8 points each in Ghaziabad and Jamshedpur centres, 7 points each in Mysore, Bokaro and Ranchi Hatia centres, 6 points  in 3 centres, 5 points in 3 centres, 4 points in 6 centres, 3 points in 11 centres, 2 points in 18 centres and 1 point in 17 centres. The index increased by 6 points in Coonoor centre, 4 points in Chennai centre, 3 points in Mercara centre, 2 points in 3 centres and 1 point in 2 centres, while in the remaining 7 centres the index remained stationary.

FORMER UNION COMMUNICATION MINISTER SENTENCED TO UNDERGO FIVE YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT WITH FINE OF RS.4 LAKH IN A CBI CASE

The Special Court (CBI Cases), Rohini, New Delhi has today sentenced Shri Sukh Ram, Former Union Communication Minister, Govt.of India to undergo five years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.4 lakh. He was convicted on 17.11.2011 U/s 120 B IPC r/w Sec.7 and Sec.13(2) r/w 13(1(d) of PC Act and for substantive offence u/s 7 and Sec.13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988 in case RC 1(A)/96/CBI/ACU-V/New Delhi.

The instant case was registered against Shri Sukhram and Shri Devinder Singh Choudhary, Chairman of Haryana Telecom Ltd., Rohtak on 22.11.1996. It was alleged that Shri Sukhram, while functioning as Minister of State, Deptt.of Communications, Govt. of India during 1994-95 abused his official position and in conspiracy with Shri Devinder Singh Choudhary, awarded contract to Haryana Telecom Ltd. for supply of excess quantity of cables to the tune of Rs.30 crores by ignoring the recommendations of Technical Evaluation Committee (TEC) and thereby caused undue pecuniary advantage to the said company and to himself by obtaining illegal gratification from Shri Devinder Singh Choudhary for showing him favours.

The FIR was registered following recovery of huge amount of around Rs.3.5 crores which included an amount of Rs.3 lacs in cash alongwith one visiting card of Shri D.S.Choudhary during search of residential premises of Shri Sukhram at Mandi, Himachal Pradesh on 16.8.1996 in case RC:3(A)/96/CBI/ACU-IV/New Delhi. Shri Sukhram has already been convicted in the mentioned case.

The chargesheet in the instant case was filed on 1.6.1998 against Shri Sukhram and Shri Devinder Singh Choudhary and charges were framed on 1.6.2002. Shri D.S.Choudhary died on 5.12.2009 while undergoing trial.

A puppet show was also organized on the occasion underlining the importance of post offices in the life of common man.

Every Year the Department of Posts brings out special Postage Stamp on Children’s Day to mark the birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru on 14th Novemeber.

Going by the tradition, Department of Posts has issued a set of two stamps on “Children’s Day” which were released by Ms. Manjula Prasher, Secretary (Posts), during a formal function organized at India Post Pavilion, IITF-2011, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

India Post, to create awareness on the tigers which are one of the most endangered species in the world and also on the verge of extinction, conducted “Design A Stamp” contest with the theme to save “The Tiger” on 12.12.2010 as one of the special events of INDIPEX-2011.

Children through their paintings had highlighted the critical areas that have caused the drastic decline of tiger population in India in a creative way. This year INDIA POST is presenting the collection of prize winning entries, at the national level on a set of two stamps, miniature sheet, First Day Cover.

Each painting is a message in itself with the plea to all of us that saving the tiger will save our ecosystem for the generations to come.

“One, Indian Post Office Bill 2011. To reform and open the Indian Postal Market, which will ultimately result in a vibrant industry and satisfied customers. The bills aims to open the Indian postal market with 50 gm privilege to India Post for a maximum of 15 years, registration of couriers by an independent registration authority and USO of postal sector to be borne wholly by the government. Discussions with stakeholders ( couriers, industry bodies and government agencies) is underway and bill will shortly introduced in the Parliament for approval.

All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) on base 2001=100 for the month of August, 2011 increased by 1 point and stood at 194 (one hundred & ninety four) .

During August, 2011, the index recorded maximum increase of 9 points in Amritsar centre, 8 points each in Bhilwara and Chindwara centres, 6 points in Kolkata centre, 5 points in Jharia centre, 4 points in 6 centres, 3 points in 7 centres, 2 points in 16 centres and 1 point in 16 centres. The index decreased by 3 points each in Giridih, Quilon and Kodarma centres, 2 points in Rajkot centre, 1 point in 9 centres while in the remaining 15 centres the index remained stationary.

The maximum increase of 9 points in Amritsar centre is mainly on account of increase in the prices of Rice, Wheat Atta, Fresh Milk, Onion, Vegetable & Fruit items, Tea (Readymade), Kerosene Oil, Electricity Charges, Medicine (Allopathic), etc. The increase of 8 points each in Bhilwara and Chindwara centres is due to increase in the prices of Wheat, Gram Dal, Groundnut Oil, Soyabeen Oil, Milk, Onion, Vegetable & Fruit items, Tea (Readymade), Bidi, Firewood, Toilet Soap, etc. The increase of 6 points in Kolkata centre is due to increase in the prices of Rice, Wheat Atta, Fish Fresh, Onion, Vegetable & Fruit items, Soft Coke, etc. The increase of 5 points in Jharia centre is due to increase in the prices of Rice, Mustard Oil, Fish Fresh, Onion, Vegetable & Fruit items, Electricity Charges, Soft Coke etc. The decrease of 3 points each in Giridih, Quilon and Kodarma centres is the outcome of decrease in the prices of Rice,Wheat Atta, Masur Dal, Turmeric Powder, Fish Fresh, Fire Wood, Soft Coke, etc. The decrease of 2 points in Rajkot centre is due to decrease in the prices of Arhar Dal, Vegetable and Fruit items, etc.

The All-India (General) point to point rate of inflation for the month of August, 2011 is 8.99% as compared to 8.43% in July, 2011. Inflation based on Food Index is 7.33% in August, 2011 as compared to 6.25% in July, 2011.

The CPI-IW for September, 2011 will be released on the last working day of the next month, i.e. 31st October, 2011.
